Two adults killed, a 12-year old girl wounded

(Ciudad Juarez, 6 September) Three women were sprayed with bullets this morning as they were riding in an automobile in the Aeropuerto district of the City. The attack occurred around 11:30 at the intersection of Sonora Street and Nayarit Street. The victims were in a gray Toyota Camry with Texas plates. Two large SUV’s, both new, one red and one gray, intercepted them, and the gunmen inside opened fire with high-powered weapons. A 12-year-old girl in the back survived the attack, but the two adult women in front were killed. They were later identified as Hilda Castañeda, 55, and Alejandra Rosales Castañeda, 32. Thirty-two shell casings of high-powered weapons were found at the scene. One of the guns used was a .9mm police pistol as well as rifles known as “cop-killers.” Both the deceased showed signs of violence, including bullet wounds to the head. The minor was taken to a private clinic.

No motive has been identified for the violence, and, as with most gang-style “executions”, no firm leads exist for identifying the killers.
