Welcome to our Oaxaca Museums page. Below you will find some general
information about the museums in Oaxaca and what you can expect to
find in them.
Please note that the last museum on the list (The Regional Museum
of Oaxaca) is the largest and most prominent museum in Oaxaca. We have
therefore included a link which will take you to the page we have
created for the museum (also known by the name of the adjacent church,
"Santo Domingo"). |

Also known as MACO (Museo
de Arte Contemporanio
de Oaxaca), the museum is open from 10:
30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day except Thursday. The museum
often exhibits works by Rufino Tamayo, Francisco Toledo,
Rodolfo Morales, Rodolfo Nieto and Francisco Gutierrez.
Located on Alcala 202, Centro Historico. Admission is only
$10 Pesos (about a dollar). For more information about

The Rufino Tamayo Museum is open from 10:00 am to 2 pm
and from 4 pm to 7 pm (Sunday 10:00 am to 3 pm). The museum
houses a private collection of pre-hispanic artifacts gathered
by the famous painter Rufino Tamayo. The artifacts from
all over Mexico are beautifully displayed in glass cases
as works of art. Located on Av. Morelos 503, Centro Historico,

The Juarez House is located on Garcia Vigil 609 and is
open from 10 am to 6 pm Tuesday through Sunday. The house
contains 5 small rooms with 19th century furniture, pictures
and information about the life of Benito Juarez. If you
take the time to read the information provided in each
room, the whole experience should last about 10 minutes.
Admission is $30 Pesos. |

| Graphic Arts Institute |

Located on Alcala 507, Centro Historico, the Graphics
Arts Institute is Open from 10 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week.
The museum houses several rooms with Old wood block prints
and contemporary etchings. The exhibit changes monthly
and admission is free. |

| La Soledad (Religious Museum) |

The museum is in fact a small exhibit made up of some
religious paintings and artifacts which some have described
as interesting junk. Here you will find the story of an
image which miraculously appeared in 1620 on a box (on
the back of a mule) which inspired a church to be built
here. Open 8 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm (closed on
Thursday). Admission is free (no photos allowed). |

Located in the Ex-Convent of Santo Domingo, the Regional
Museum of Oaxaca is the premier museum in Oaxaca with historic
artifacts and exhibits from Monte Alban, the Spanish conquest,
